Dirt Jump Track – Kråkberget

There is a dirt jump track inside Kråkberget, a military training ground and a place where the local moto enduro club have their practice. This dirt jump track has been there for years. And on and off, there seems to be people riding and working on it. And sometimes nothing happens for a long time. Someone started working on jumps there last summer.

There are some interesting stuff there, but the place needs a lot of work. I have had some thoughts about fixing things. Will see what happens this summer when i have a bit more time. Nice place anyway, and pretty close to where i live. Nice to have somewhere to go with my dirt jump bike when i just want to ride and improve my skills.

One thing that would have been cool would be to build a pump track thing there too. If thats possible. But thats a lot of work for one person.

Oldschool Freeride

Went out for a ride yesterday to test my old hardtail to see if i can use it for some kind of freeride sessions. There is a military training ground in which also a local motocross/enduro club has their practice. This place has some interesting features but a lot of sand and it really messes with your bike. Especially during dry summers.

I bought my old hardtail 2010 and it is getting old. Some parts needs to be changed but the cost is to high, and not something i want to spend money on. There is annoying sounds coming from different parts of the bike and lubrication does not seem to help. Not very pleasant to hear on a longer ride or a commute. But the bike works pretty well as a play bike inside that military training ground. Not having to be careful with the bike makes it more fun and interesting. More stuff to try now with that in mind.

The frame geometry is not the most fun though. Cant go very low with the saddle which makes some descents a bit complicated. It has those rim brakes which are not that effective, something i noticed yesterday. But those things can be dealt with in some way. And its good practice. But an old XC bike is not really built for this kind of riding so i guess there will be some limitations. We’ll see what those might be.

Dirt bike session

I had my first ride of the year on my dirt bike.

The biggest reason for this test was to see how my body reacted to riding my dirt bike, both during the ride and after. As a test to see how “bad” things really are. I guess it it the same for most people, but i feel that it takes a lot more out of your body riding a dirt bike. You are standing up all the time and put more pressure on legs and arms. Mostly legs but arms too for me considering the lack of core strength.

Things were pretty much as i expected. Didn’t take long before my legs and my arms felt tired. And despite a shorter session today, my legs and arms hurt more after and felt a lot more tired.

I already knew that i have a lot of basic workout to do, to get in shape. I need to improve my strength a lot. Thats problably the biggest issue at the moment and especially my core strength and upper body strength. My legs are not as bad and they are easier to get fit. I just need to ride my bike as much as possible. Core strengt and upper body strength is a bit more complicated, for me anyway. I never seems to get much of that part when riding my bikes. so i need to do other things.

Was nice anyway to have a ride on my dirt bike early on. I am planning to have atleast one session a week on my dirt bike. Maybe two sessions a week if i can make it work, and i have as many sessions a week as i have had this week. Could be less bike sessions per week if i need to have more serious strength training done.
